Editorial Review:
Product Description: When you think of Calphalon you might visualize high-quality stovetop cookware and kitchen tools. Now Calphalon delivers a countertop, electric toaster and oven that can heat, roast, toast, and bake foods in a jiffy. A convection oven speeds the process by circulating air in the heat chamber. That allows for uniform heating without compromising taste. The HE650CO is quite substantial even though it has a relatively compact exterior. Its large 0.7-cubic-foot capacity can accommodate a 9-by-13-inch pan, a 12-inch pizza, or six slices of bread, bagel halves, or English muffin halves. To toast, simply press the "toast" button and select from "light", "medium", or "dark" shade settings. For baking, turn the temperature control knob to the desired heat setting, ranging from 250 to 450 degrees F, then set the timer up to 60 minutes or choose the "always on" setting for continuous operation. For convection baking, simply push the button and the convection fan circulates warm air around food during the baking cycle for superior browning and even baking or roasting. Or, turn the control knob to "broil" and set the timer; the unit's upper heating element will quickly sear meats or melt cheese on garlic bread. A chime will sound once the timer ticks down to zero, or with the "always on" setting, the unit will shut off automatically after two hours. Other highlights include an Opti-Heat system for premium heating, a glass door for checking on the cooking progress at a glance, a high-performance bronze nonstick interior, and a removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. The Calphalon HE650CO XL 1400-Watt 0.7-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster and Convection Oven is ready for your everyday, any moment needs. It's also ready to augment larger cooking projects. I think I'm going to use it for my grilled tomato and mozzarella sandwich. Unit Weight - 19-4/5 lbs Calphalon 1-Year Limited Warranty

I ordered this little oven to replace another toaster/convection oven that I had. I am amazed at how quickly this oven heats up. The convection fan is so quiet that I had to listen to see if it actually was working. A 12 inch pizza fits in the oven with no problems at all.
I rarely use my big oven anymore. I can cook just about anything in this little counter top oven. I would not expect to do professional baking in it however. I will leave that to my bigger oven.

The unit looks great, and as long as you keep an oven thermometer in there while you are cooking, it will serve you well. For the Calphalon name and price of the unit, the thermostat should be better calibrated.
I have found that the unit depending on its mood will be anywhere from 25 to 50 degrees off. For example to cook at 350 you must set it to around 375 or 400.
I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to bake fine deserts.

The person who wrote the 'gadgets' review is exactly right - I won't re-write what was written but the Calphalon name is on this product and it's poor...at best. Doesn't heat evenly, have to rotate the pans - not much fits - if you have yeast rolls that rise, they'll hit the top burner and burn as mine did, the pan falls out onto your lap and on and on it goes. Poor design, wish I hadn't purchased -- but I trusted the Calphalon name.

I had very high hopes for this oven. It has the Calphalon name on it. Their PR write up sounds so promising. The warranty is good. The oven is handsome. Too bad it fails as an oven though. I tested this oven thoroughly upon receipt. I knew I had to make sure this was a keeper given the price. Save your money and buy a $60 toaster oven. It is important to share that I never use a 'big' oven. Normal ovens pull 3500 watts. They cost a fortune and the overwhelming majority of people don't need ... Read More
