Rockhoppers are often confused with Macaroni penguins. Rockhoppers are the most aggressive of all penguin species. They attack intruders with gusto, even jumping to fasten to a jacket sleeve and will hold on furiously. Their aggressive nature serves them well as they defend their rocky coastline rookeries from the predatory attacks of skuas and gulls. In the past Rockhoppers were exploited by man for their eggs and oil. This is a silver and enamel pin. Master artisans paint each article by hand using solutions containing colored granules of glass.
